Silverfish are wingless insects that are about a ½ inch long when fully grown. They are covered with silvery scales with three long, slender, “antennae-like” appendages that project from the end of the abdomen. Silverfish live at least 3 years in optimal conditions. Silverfish can easily adapt to a structural environment and live in warm moist locations in a structure. They will feed on books, cloth and sometimes dried meat and dead insects. Silverfish love to eat glues and pastes found in books, wallpaper, labels and paper products. Silverfish can survive weeks without food and water.
